Kitchen Towels
When I started weaving it seemed the only kitchen towels you could buy were white and blue. Nothing wrong with that; but I like color and pattern, so I decided I'd have to weave my own towels. I love to put on enough warp to weave fifteen or sixteen towels and see how many different-but-similar ones I can make. My towels are always 100% cotton and range in size between 15"-16" x 22"-24".
Rugs
Plain weave, the simplest weave structure there is--where every thread goes over one then under one. Amazing what can be done with even the simplest of things. All these rugs use only natural fibers; they have a warmth both metaphoric and real. If only you could reach through the screen and touch them.
Runners & Throws
A rather arbitrary compilation? Think of it as textiles that get placed on furniture (furniture clothes?).
Scarves & Shawls
The world of scarves confuses me. I'm not much of a scarf wearer myself; but I know people who live by the motto that there's no such thing as too many scarves. I'll just have to believe them. It seems to take a certain amount of panache or whimsy to carry a scarf off well, which my pragmatism (and an internal furnace that works overtime) just won't allow. As a weaver, though, a scarf is a great palette to play around with new ideas.
Yoga Mats
Enlightenment and art seem like a good combination.
This is the newest addition to my repertoire. When a friend, Matt, who is a yoga instructor, asked if I would be willing to weave him a yoga mat, I flatly refused. Seeing all the reasons that this wouldn't work well, I promptly forgot about it. Apparently my brain had other plans, as it decided to work on this problem in secret. When it was satisfied with a solution, my brain had me call Matt and suggest weaving yoga mats as if it were my own idea. Silly, silly brain. These are nice sturdy mats that are machine wash and dry; feel free to use them anywhere you might need a washable rug.
